Exo Terra Infrared Basking Spot – heating lamp

Exo Terra Infrared Basking Spot is a heating lamp that emits infrared heat waves. The spot lamp has a special build-in reflector to direct the heat in any direction required. The red glass transmits Infrared waves produced by the special filament of the bulb. The reddish light will not disrupt normal activity during night or day, which makes it an excellent 24 hour heat source.

Reptiles are ectothermic animals and therefore have the ability to thermoregulate their body temperature by moving from a warm to a cold point in their habitat and vice versa to maintain their preferred body temperature. The focused beam of the Basking Spot allows a stream of light and heat to be directed at a specific area, creating a warming point. This much warmer area will create a temperature gradient in the terrarium, allowing the reptiles to thermoregulate. All Exo Terra Basking Spot bulbs are manufactured from coloured glass to increase the penetration of heat waves, which also makes them highly energy efficient.

The Exo Terra Infrared Basking Spot is designed to provide a mixture of visible light combined with appropriate infrared or NIR thermal radiation. Reptiles use this radiation to bask because the sun produces most of its energy in the infrared segment of the spectrum, particularly in the near infrared or infrared A. Infrared radiation penetrates the skin. Infrared in general, but especially infrared A, penetrates the skin very well and promotes cell growth, wound healing, supports the immune system, protects against UV damage and stimulates many other biological processes. The Exo Terra Basking Spot allows reptiles to regulate their body temperature to increase activity and healthy digestion of food. The bulb also emits a small proportion of UVA rays, which contribute to the reptiles’ well-being and stimulate their reproductive behaviour.
